Troubleshooting Audio Issues with Sonos Amp

Is your Sonos Amp not pumping out the tunes as expected? Here's a guide to troubleshoot common audio issues and get your music flowing again.

Basic Checks:

  •  Power & Cables: Ensure your Sonos Amp, speakers, and any connected devices are securely plugged into power.
  •  Volume: This might seem obvious, but make sure the volume is turned up on both the Sonos app and the physical volume control on the Amp itself (if applicable). Additionally, check if the volume limit feature in the app is disabled (Settings > System > Select Amp > Volume Limit).
  •  Mute Button: Verify that the mute button on the Sonos app or remote is not engaged.
  • Input Selection:  Confirm that the correct source is selected on the Sonos app. If your Amp is connected to a TV or external device, ensure the correct input is chosen on both the Amp and the device itself by tapping the Music icon in the Sonos app and selecting the correct source.

 Speaker Issues:
  • Speaker Selection:  In the Sonos app, verify that the speakers are grouped together and assigned to the Amp in the room settings by tapping the Middle icon and making sure that the correct amp or room is being controlled.

Advanced Troubleshooting:

  • Reboot Sonos Amp:  For a deeper reset, unplug the power cable from your Sonos Amp for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. Wait for the status light to turn solid white.

  • Test Speakers Individually:  Try testing each amp one at a time by ungrouping the rooms in the Sonos app to see if every amp/room is having issues or just one room.

  • Network Issues:  Though less common, network connectivity issues can affect audio playback. Briefly reboot your router by unplugging it for 10 seconds and plugging it back in.  If you have other Sonos speakers that work fine, the issue might be isolated to the Amp.

  • Factory reset your device: As a last resort, you can factory reset your Sonos product and learn it back into your Sonos app as a new device.

Sonos App & System:

  • App Update: Ensure you're using the latest version of the Sonos app. Outdated apps might have compatibility issues.

  • System Update:  Check for and install any available system updates for your Sonos Amp through the Sonos app (Settings > System > Check for Updates).
